Windows 10 Upgrade

As many users have been upgrading their system to Windows 10, here are some tips on ensuring Presenter 4 is able to play videos and other DirectShow media without problems. I’ve included notes for Version 2 and 3 as well.

Presenter v4: Upgrading an existing Win7/Win8 system to Windows 10

  • After performing the in-place upgrade, un-install the codec pack currently in place (eg. K-lite).
  • Download and install the latest K-lite version from either free-codecs.com or codecguide.com. User feedback suggests sticking with the basic or standard version. The basic version supports the most common video formats. Note: Since Presenter is 32-bit, the DirectShow ‘filters’ installed by any codec pack must be targeted to 32-bit applications, even though the operating system may be 64-bit.
  • Restart your system (recommended)
  • Start Presenter and test your videos

Tip: I recommend keeping with MP4 H.264 videos and avoid playing different types, as the DirectShow support can become less than 100% reliable otherwise.

Presenter v4: Installing a fresh copy of Windows 10

  • Download a fresh copy of the Presenter V4 setup and install.
  • Copy your song lyric files and other media as required from the old system to the new. The Presenter home location is in the public documents folder.
  • Download and install the latest K-lite version as indicated above.
  • Start Presenter and test your videos

Presenter v2 and v3; Upgrading an existing Win7/Win8 system to Windows 10

These versions should be unaffected by the upgrade. Just make sure all users have read/write access to the Presenter folder (\Present2 or \Present3). (In Explorer, right-click Properties > Security)

Presenter v2 and v3: Installing a fresh copy of Windows 10

  • Download a fresh copy of the Presenter V2/V3 setup and install.
  • Copy your song lyric files and other media as required from the old system to the new. Make sure you retain the same folder structure (one level deep) under the Presenter folder.
  • Ensure that all users have read/write access to the Presenter folder (\Present2 or \Present3) (In Explorer, right-click Properties > Security)
